Day 20: Hua Hin, Thursday 27th June 2024
Cloudy/Rain/cloudy, 31°
NZ$1 = THB22
THB1 = NZ$0.04
Up at 8am, breakfast arrived in our room at 8:30 ( eggs, bacon, hot chocolate, coffee, juice, fruit and toast ).
Had breakfast then relaxed for a bit, had a quick dip in the pool. Left at 10:30am, walked to the beach which is about 20m away, then walked along the beach towards town.
Things that struck us during our walk; no seagulls just pigeons on the beach, lovely warm water, and sadly bits of rubbish all along the beach; not piles of rubbish but every 5m there would be a bottle or a razor or a bag.
Off the beach near the pier and walked along the road into town, and went to the Starbucks for a drink at 11am. Left at 12pm and walked back to the beach next to the Hilton Resort. There weren’t many people on the beach but there were umbrellas out and horse rides being offered. We walked along a bit, then back to the nearest 7eleven for supplies for lunch ( just the usual custard buns, yoghurts and drinks ) then got a Grab back to the hotel (THB70/$3.50 ) at 12:30pm.
Relaxed for the afternoon; in the pool, in the shade etc. It started to rain with thunder at 4pm for an hour or so and then stayed cloudy. We headed out at 6pm, walked to the main road then along to Chom Retsaurant ( I had seen a video about this place on Youtube, but didn’t realise is was close to our hotel until I looked it up on the map ). This is a very new restaurant and felt like it. We had tea ( 2 dishes, with a big beer each; THB500/24 ), then looked around the garden / imitation rain forest complete with waterfall, and caught a Grab back the 1km to the hotel at 7:30pm.
Hua Hin is a nice place; a little rough around the edges in a Thai way, but a nice humidity level, everything you need in a town, and not super busy and ‘resort like’, which was nice.
