2024 Malaysia / Thailand / Cambodia: Costs

In this blog I will attempt to add up the costs of our 4 week trip through Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia.

As a recap:

  • We flew NZ to Singapore

  • Crossed into Malaysia at Johor Bahru

  • Train to Kuala Lumpur

  • Train to Georgetown

  • Train to Hat Yai, Thailand

  • Flew to Bangkok

  • Train to Kanchanaburi

  • Back to Bangkok

  • Bus to Hua Hin, and bus back to Bangkok

  • Flew to Siem Reap Cambodia

  • Flew Siem Reap to Bangkok to Singapore to NZ

The costs are for 2 people, and will be in $NZ, based on the exchange rate at the time

Singapore: Four Points Sheraton Riverside, 1 night, $339

Johor Bahru: Fivers Downtown, 1 night, $201. ( this was including the night we booked and paid for which was for the month before! The night we stayed was $128 )

Kuala Lumpur: Santa Grand Classic KL Chinatown, 2 nights, $237 ( this price includes a night we didn’t use but paid for anyway, we only stayed 2 nights )

George Town: Citadines Connect, 3 nights, $317

George Town: Hotel Sentral Georgetown, 0 night, $70 ( we never stayed here, but booked and paid, then read the reviews… )

George Town: Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang, 1 night, $70

Hat Yai: Centara Hotel Hat Yai, 3 nights, $428

Bangkok: Siri Heritage Bangkok, 2 nights, $169

Kanchanaburi: Bridge Residence, 2 nights, $136

Bangkok: Citadines Sukhumvit 11, 3 nights, $282

From Singapore to Hat Yai ( which we flew out of ) cost of the trains: $107

Spending: $3,115

TOTAL: $11,818

26 days travel = $454/day, including everything

For just the costs from Singapore back to Singapore ( ie excluding getting to Singapore ) = $300/day
